Earth Day is on April 22nd, so why not make your very own earth from objects that can be found around the house? Even better, here are some read aloud recommendations to go with:
Pair it with Paulie Pastrami Achieves World Peace by James Proimos and write ten ways your reader is going to help achieve world peace in white crayon or a gold pen on the back; use this craft to follow up How Big Is The World? by Britta Teckentrup or Whoever You Are by Mem Fox; or match it with a nonfiction picture book of your choice.
What You’ll Need:
A coffee filter
Blue and green markers
Spray bottle filled with water
Glue stick
Black construction paper
Gold star stickers
Newspaper
Optional: White crayon, gold pen
Directions:
1. Spread out newspaper over a flat surface. This is what you will color and spray your Earth on.
2. Use the markers to color the coffee filter (look at a picture of the earth from outer space for inspiration - view 1, view 2); color in lightly, as the ink will spread quickly (See picture on right).
3. Spritz the coffee filter with the spray bottle until coffee filter is lightly damp. Let dry.
4. Glue coffee filter onto the black construction paper
5. Put star stickers on the remaining black construction paper.
Voila! Earth from outer space.
